1929

Joint Conference Committee met and drew up a new agreement which was approved August 15th, 1929.

The year 1929 opened with a Donnybrook between Local 103 and the Boston United Building Trades Council over the wages of electricians on the Boston Elevated. The B.U.B.T.C. signed an agreement with the Boston Elevated for all trades which reduced the wages of electricians by 12 1/2 cents. The wages of the electricians were negotiated separately by Local 103 two years before to bring then in parity with the construction wages that were agreed upon at the C.I.R.

Local 103 protested to the Building Trades Department of the A.F. of L. and President McSorley wrote to the Building Trades Council that they had no authority to include the electricians in the negotiations. The decision of the A.F. of L. was at first ignored and Local 103 severed all connections including per capita payments to the Building Trades Council before they relented.

The Boston Elevated stood by their agreement with Local 103 and the matter became moot.

On June 29, 1929, the annual election was held at Horticultural Hall in Boston. The polls were open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., but the final vote was not tabulated on the new voting machines until midnight.
