First Picnic and Prizes

On September 3, 1898, Local 35 held its first picnic at Bass Point, Nahant, Massachusetts. A committee, led by Bro. Otto Petterson, arranged donations for prizes from the following:

100 yard dash was won by Brother P. Larkin and second place by W. Thomas

Three standing jumps won by W. Thomas and second place by P. Larkin

Rope throwing, there being 35 entries, won by B. Guttro and second place by A. Chisholm

Pole climbing - 49 foot pole - won by J. J. Comeron at 16.5 seconds, and second by A. McDonald at 17 seconds.

It was a grand sight to see how they did the drop act, one being measured at 26 feet.

Gents potato race won by President Mike Birminghan and D. Flynn.

Work seems to be picking up in the Boston area.
