On January 11th, Harrie S. "Goodie" Goodwin died. He has served as Press Secretary and Executive Board member, but his cartoons, including the Journal motif, were what he was most famous for.
On Memorial Day, 1940, the Press Secretary remembered other members who had passed away in the last year in the May 1940 Journal:
LU No. 103, Boston, Mass.
Editor:
With Memorial Day so near at hand and
with the passing to the Great Beyond of
many of our beloved friends and Brothers,
it is both fitting and proper that we pause
for the moment to pay tribute to their
memory.

We did not wish to take their resignation,
We would have moved a reconsideration,
But since the final Judge did so elect,
There was nothing we could do but pay respect,
Upon our honorary member list,
They will remain as long as we exist.

Press Secretary
